Dmitry Polyansky, Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, commented on the air of the Rossiya 1 TV channel that the United States intends to raise the topic of reforming the organization’s Security Council at the UN General Assembly. In particular, experts believe that the question of depriving Russia of the right of veto may be raised.
“Yes, they present it all in an anti-Russian vein, there is nothing new in this,” Polyansky said, adding that the Americans do not have any levers and mechanisms without the collapse of the UN and without undermining its foundations. At the same time, he noted that no one is interested in divorced the UN.
When asked if Russia could be deprived of the right to veto, Polyansky replied: “Of course not.”
“Russia also has its own position on the reform of the UN Security Council,” the diplomat also said, explaining that Moscow is in favor of expanding the geographical coverage of the Security Council by including the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.
