Politico: Hamas succeeds due to disorder in Israeli army and intelligence services

Hamas’s attack on Israel was successful because of the disarray in the Israeli army and intelligence services, former Israeli Deputy National Security Advisor Chuck Freilich said, as quoted by Politico.
Freilich said the country’s unpreparedness for such an attack was obvious.
“The divisional headquarters in charge of the Gaza Strip has been captured, there is chaos there, and therefore the reaction has been delayed,” he said.
According to Freilich, the Israeli army will “relatively quickly” return the captured settlements, and after that there will be “very large-scale attacks on Hamas.
“The question is whether the goal will be to conquer the Gaza Strip and overthrow Hamas, or just hit it hard,” Freilich added.
On the morning of October 7, a massive rocket attack began on populated areas of Israel from the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli military estimates, the number of rockets fired exceeded 3 thousand. In addition, dozens of Hamas militants entered the country. Hamas itself announced Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, addressing the people of Israel, announced that the state was in a state of war.
Mobilization was announced, the Israeli military was clearing out populated areas, but they were unable to completely regain control over the populated areas captured by Hamas. Moscow called on Israel and Palestine to cease fire and return to the negotiating table.
