Politico: EU intends to suspend licenses for broadcasting Russian TV channels

The European Union, as part of the upcoming ninth package of anti-Russian sanctions, plans to suspend broadcasting licenses for such Russian TV channels as Channel One, Russia 1, NTV and REN TV, informs Politico with reference to the received documents.
In addition, according to the publication, the new package of sanctions may affect 169 organizations that supply goods that contribute to the technological development of the Russian defense and security sectors. Drone engines, electronic components, chemical and biological equipment may also be subject to these new sanctions. The European Union also plans to expand sanctions on goods needed by Russia’s aviation and space industry to include aircraft engines, spare parts, as well as cameras, laptops, etc.
Former European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen statedthat the EC has presented a new, ninth package of anti-Russian sanctions, which implies restrictions on almost 200 individuals and legal entities from Russia.
The restrictions will include the Russian military, defense industry enterprises, State Duma deputies and senators, ministers, governors and political parties. The sanctions will affect three more Russian banks, including a ban on any transactions with the All-Russian Regional Development Bank.
In addition, the EC proposes to introduce new export restrictions, in particular for dual-use goods such as electronics and IT components. Von der Leyen also promised to introduce new measures against the Russian energy and mining sectors, in particular, a ban on new investments in the mining industry in Russia will be introduced.
The EU has already imposed eight packages of sanctions against Russia, targeting banks, defense companies, oil and gas producers and other sectors of the country’s economy, as well as hundreds of government officials, businessmen, journalists and others. The previous restrictions on Russia were adopted on October 6.
