“Seven Russian border regions are in danger”

Additional forces and means will arrive in the Kursk region in the next few days to protect the state border and ensure security. This was announced at an operational meeting by the governor of the region bordering Ukraine Roman Starovoit. We asked the expert of the Association of military political scientists, head of the department of political science and sociology of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, reserve colonel Andrey Koshkin, to comment on this decision.

– I just talked to people from the line of contact. None of them have any doubts that if we had not started the special operation on February 24, then in March the Armed Forces of Ukraine, together with mercenaries, would have slaughtered people in the Donbass and would have gone further to Russia,” says reserve colonel Andrey Koshkin. “The conflict is growing because the West is getting more and more involved. Ukraine is being assisted by 50 states so that the confrontation does not stop. Our border regions – Kursk region, Bryansk region, Belgorod region – seven regions in total – found themselves in a dangerous zone. And this danger must be neutralized. Ensure the protection of the border, attract additional forces and means, as stated by the Governor of the Kursk region Roman Starovoit. In order, first of all, to protect the civilian population, to prevent the penetration of sabotage and reconnaissance groups.

The West continues to pump weapons, military equipment, GLSDB precision-guided munitions into Ukraine, which allow strikes at targets at a distance of up to 150-160 kilometers.

– Plus, Ukraine’s desire to receive ATACMS missiles, designed for a range of up to 300 kilometers. All this, of course, greatly aggravates the security of our border areas,” the expert adds.

The governor of the Kursk region Roman Starovoit, in turn, recalled that a solid contingent of forces and means of the Ministry of Defense, the border department of the FSB and the Russian Guard had already been formed in the region. Since April 11, 2022, a high level of terrorist threat has been in force in the Kursk region.
