General Skshipchak: Ukrainian Armed Forces definitely need to “do something” before NATO summit
The former commander of the Polish Ground Forces, General Waldemar Skrzypczak, said in an interview with Fronda that the events currently taking place on the Ukrainian fronts are a prelude to the main offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, Kyiv must have time to strike the main blow before the NATO summit in Vilnius in July and achieve some success, because otherwise the West will doubt Ukraine’s capabilities.
According to the Polish general, the main offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should begin around June 15.
“They have to show the world that the Ukrainian army is capable of defeating the Russians,” Skshipchak said, adding that if Kyiv does not do this, the West will lose faith in him.
The general estimated the number of Ukrainian troops prepared for the offensive at 80,000-100,000 people and explained that such a number could attack in one, maximum two directions, and the offensive itself could not last more than two weeks, since the potential of the troops during this time would be exhausted. According to Skshipchak, given that the Russian military was preparing for this operation, the Ukrainians cannot make a mistake.
At the same time, the Polish general believes that Kyiv will bet on recapturing the Donbass. “The bet in this game is on the Donbass, because without it Ukraine will become an agrarian country,” he explained.
He added that the events that are unfolding north and south of Artemivsk indicate that “Ukrainians will focus on recapturing the Donbass.”
