Police liberate buildings occupied by protesters in Brazil's capital

Law enforcement officers in the Brazilian capital Brasilia forced the protesters to leave the government buildings they had previously seized, including the country’s parliament.

According to the publication O Globo, the security forces on Sunday managed to regain control of “the buildings of the three branches of government.”

Earlier, the Brazilian authorities declared a state of emergency in the capital until January 30, and President Lula da Silva said that the armed forces would be used to disperse the protesters. Argentina and Chile have officially invited Brazil to send police special forces to the capital to assist the Brazilian police in quelling the riots.

Demonstrators from among the supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro previously broke into the National Congress (Parliament), the Federal Supreme Court and the Planalto Palace, which is the working residence of the head of state. The few at that time the guards of the objects that were empty on a non-working day could not rebuff them. There have been no reports of possible deaths so far.
