The ban on the passage of trucks with Russian and Belarusian license plates across the Polish border will come into force on June 1. This follows from the order of the government of the country.
The ban is in effect until further notice. It applies to trucks, trailers, tractors, as well as semi-trailers and road trains registered in Russia and Belarus, clarifies TASS.
On June 26, the Ministry of the Interior and Administration of Poland submitted a corresponding draft resolution to the government. The explanatory note to the document specified that such a measure was aimed at ensuring the country’s public security. The Polish edition of Wprost Biznes wrote that the decision may be a response to a proposal to block the movement of Polish trucks through Russia. By opinion experts of Vedomosti, the decision of the Polish authorities will complicate logistics, but will not have a critical impact on Russian carriers.
Formerly Russian authorities suggested to ban Polish trucks from passing through the territory of Russia. On May 23, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin announced that the deputies unanimously voted for a ban on the passage of Polish trucks. Parliamentarians also want to ban carriers from Poland from refueling at Russian gas stations at local prices, setting the cost of fuel for them at the level of EU prices. According to Volodin, the Poles will lose about 8.5 billion euros of income received at the expense of Russia.
