The European Union is looking for funding to introduce a ceiling on gas prices. This was stated by Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, write “RIA News”.

“Today at the summit we will again talk about gas price limits. Why are we discussing this for so long? In particular, because it is necessary to take funds from somewhere that will mitigate high prices,” Morawiecki said.

Along with this, the Prime Minister of Poland proposed to confiscate the necessary funds from Russian businesses. “We need to get into these very deep wallets of the Russian oligarchs and the Russian Federation,” the Polish prime minister said. Morawiecki said the EU could now confiscate up to $400 billion worth of Russian property.

“We are in favor of confiscating the property of the Russian Federation. Are we looking for money? They are there. This is 350 billion dollars, and some believe that this is even 400 billion dollars, which can be used to restore Ukraine,” he said.

13 December Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjártó declaredthat the energy ministers of the EU countries at a meeting in Brussels failed to reach an agreement on the marginal gas price.

Earlier it became known that disagreements intensified in the European Union over the planned setting of a ceiling on gas prices. A group of 12 member states of the bloc, including Belgium, Greece, Italy and Poland, on the eve of an emergency meeting of EU energy ministers, called for a lower ceiling on gas prices from the Russian Federation.

Initially, the European Commission proposed launching a mechanism to limit gas prices subject to two conditions. First, the price of gas exceeds 275 euros per MWh for two weeks. Second, the price of TTF is 58 euros higher than the base price of LNG for 10 trading days.

The Kremlin has repeatedly stressed that Russia will not supply energy to countries that join the price ceiling.
