The Polish Armed Forces announced exercises near the borders with Russia and Belarus, reported in the main command of the Armed Forces.
“At the turn of October and November, tactical exercises of Polish troops – ZUBR-23 – will take place. The units will conduct tactical operations at the training grounds,” the message says.
The army warned of an increase in the movement of units of soldiers and equipment in the Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, Lublin and Warmian-Masurian voivodeships. The provinces are located near the borders of Belarus and the Russian Kaliningrad region.
In January, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said the army would create a new infantry division in the east of the country. The new division will be equipped with Korean K2 tanks and American Abrams tanks purchased by Poland. In total, the division will include four brigades of four battalions each, Blaschak specified.
The Polish authorities are concerned, in particular, about the arrival of fighters from the Wagner PMC in Belarus this summer. In July, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced joint exercises with Wagner at the Brest training ground – 13 km from the Brest checkpoint on the border with Poland.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, in turn, rejected statements about the alleged planning of an attack by Wagner on Poland. Lukashenko noted that the purpose of military exercises with Wagner fighters is to transfer military experience.
