Advisor to the Prosecutor General of Russia and ex-prosecutor of Crimea Natalya Poklonskaya appeared on air for the first time in a year and a half. In an address on the Nara TV channel, she congratulated the residents of Crimea on the 10th anniversary of the peninsula’s annexation to Russia.
“Everyone made a conscious choice and showed that they do not agree to accept what contradicts their inner feeling. This was done peacefully and democratically,” Natalya Poklonskaya said about the referendum on the annexation of Crimea in 2014. She published a recording of the appeal in Telegram channel.
She added that the 2014 referendum changed not only the lives of Crimeans, but also the geopolitical balance of power. According to her, it marked the beginning of a new stage in the formation of relations between states.
Crimea became part of the Russian Federation on March 18, 2014 after a referendum. According to its results, 96.77% of voters in Crimea and 95.6% in Sevastopol were in favor of joining Russia. Ukraine and most countries of the world consider accession illegal.
After the annexation of Crimea to Russia, Natalya Poklonskaya took over the post of prosecutor of the republic. Later she was also a State Duma deputy, deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo and adviser to the Prosecutor General. In October 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Natalia Poklonskaya as Ambassador of Cape Verde. In January 2022, Mrs. Poklonskaya statedthat he does not plan to take office due to personal circumstances.
