At the end of February, a new ice arena opened its doors in the Leningrad region – “Flagman” in Roshchino. The final of the Night Hockey League has already taken place on the updated field. “MK in the Leningrad Region” learned how sports infrastructure is being developed in the region.

In Roshchino, the development of the sports cluster is progressing by leaps and bounds. It all started in 2018, when a sports ground was built in the village under a regional program, which became a training base for the Croatian national team that participated in the World Cup. However, local residents could also use the new facility, which gave good results. Thus, the Flagman team in the same year won the final of the Night Hockey League of the Champions League 40+ division in Sochi. Subsequently, the winners received a certificate for 100 million rubles from the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation; it was presented personally by President Vladimir Putin.

Last week in Roshchino the new ice arena “Flagman” opened its doors for the first sports match – it received this name in honor of the winning team. As the press service of the Leningrad region administration reported, this is now the most modern sports complex in the region.

An ice arena for hockey and figure skating competitions was built at the facility. The football field was equipped with modern installations for heating the lawn and freezing ice. An area for beach sports was also organized. And the number of spectator seats at the Roschino Arena was increased to 1,490 thanks to the new grandstand.

The first match, the final of the Night Hockey League, was already held at the Flagman on March 2, which was attended by Governor Alexander Drozdenko. “Leningradets” played against the “KAMAZ” team from Naberezhnye Chelny. The competition, by the way, ended in a draw.

— The large-scale development of the sports cluster in Roshchino began with the victory of the Leningrad team in the final of the Night Hockey League. I am sure that local and regional teams will be proud to hone their skills on this site and will try again and again to repeat the achievements of their predecessors. This will give a powerful sports impulse to the hockey movement throughout the region, — said Alexander Drozdenko.

Vladimir Putin also touched upon the topic of sports in his Address to the Federal Assembly. The President noted one of the most significant achievements in this area – citizens began to regularly engage in sports more often. According to him, in order for the sports sector to develop, it is necessary to create conditions for classes in preschool institutions, schools, colleges and universities.

“I propose using federal resources to annually build at least 350 additional sports facilities in the regions, primarily in small towns and rural areas. These include universal complexes and prefabricated playgrounds where children, adults, and entire families can practice. In addition, we will allocate about 65 billion rubles from the federal budget for these purposes over six years, – the president noted.

Governor Alexander Drozdenko noted that the President’s Address opens up great goals and provides new opportunities for the regions. As for Roshchino, the village will continue to develop a sports cluster. As reported by the Leningrad region administration, it is planned to reconstruct the former pioneer camp, where new buildings and hotels will be built to accommodate sports teams. The development of a sports cluster will help hold competitions at all levels in Roshchino – regional, interregional and even all-Russian, both in hockey and football.
