The Rosetta station photographed the first known caves on the nucleus of comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Planetary scientists from France’s National Center for Scientific Research said images taken by the Rosetta space station have revealed caves on a comet for the first time.
The depth of the three caves on the nucleus of comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko, which was photographed by Rosetta, ranges from 20 to 47 meters, according to the work published on the preprint website arXiv.org.
The caves have an asymmetrical funnel-shaped entrance that narrows with increasing depth.
