Planetary scientists at the University of Texas have created a computer model to suggest what would happen to Jupiter’s moon Europa if a comet hit its surface.

As the model showed, if the comet breaks through half of the approximately ten-kilometer-thick icy surface of Europa, the rest will be “eaten” by hot water from the melted ice. This will allow chemicals from the surface to enter the subglacial ocean.

It is assumed that if the Earth is not the only habitable space object in the solar system, then its second “refuge” could be Europe.
