Last May, on the centenary of the Pioneers, a draft law on the Russian movement of children and youth was submitted to the State Duma. At the choice of the participants, it was called the “Movement of the First”. When asked by journalists about how the Kremlin treats the rehabilitation of the pioneer movement or the renaming of the Movement of the First, Dmitry Peskov answered: “The name Movement of the First is what the children chose, what the youth chose. the children voted for this name, but otherwise the memory of the pioneer is for those who want it, they keep this memory.In any case, there was a phenomenon in the history of our country that will not go away from history.”
On April 19, President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with members of the government, suggested thinking about the name of the movement of children and youth. According to him, the old name “pioneer” reflects the essence and has no political overtones. Then Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova reminded the head of state that he was chosen by the children themselves. Vladimir Putin said that they would need to be consulted about a possible new option.
