Pilot killed in Colombian military plane collision

Two military aircraft collided in Colombia during an exercise, one pilot was killed, the second pilot was not seriously injured, informs publication Semana with reference to the country’s armed forces.
A-27 Super Tucano aircraft collided on July 1 at a regional military base in the city of Villavicencio, capital of the Meta department. The crash killed Colonel Mario Andrés Espinosa. According to the publication, he worked as a flight instructor on Tucano – “one of the most complex aircraft,” which maneuvers are carried out with a high degree of risk. The Colombian Air Force reported that an inspection commission was sent to the accident site to investigate.
Semana notes that in 2013, the Colombian Aviation Industry Corporation (CIAC) ordered the renewal of 14 Tucano aircraft, which the country bought for $40 million in 1992. The corporation then said that this process takes four months for each aircraft.
