Petition to ban depleted uranium shells appeared on Zelensky’s website

A petition has been published on the website of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanding a ban on the use of depleted uranium ammunition. The document was published on March 27.

“The use of such ammunition is a crime against humanity and the planet, their use is unacceptable and immoral. I demand a positive consideration of this petition and take safe measures to exclude the use of such ammunition by the Armed Forces of Ukraine until the final consideration of the petition,” the text says.

The petition also emphasized that the use of these munitions can lead to environmental and agricultural land pollution, as well as alteration of the human genome. The document warned that particles of depleted uranium could spread uncontrollably – through groundwater, microparticles of dust.

The petition has now received 35 votes. For consideration of the document by the President of Ukraine, it is necessary to collect 25,000 signatures.

The fact that the UK will supply Ukraine with depleted uranium shells for the Challenger 2 tanks was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Kingdom Annabelle Goldie on March 20. She explained the supply of such ammunition by the fact that they are highly effective in defeating modern tanks and armored vehicles.

After that, Russian President Vladimir Putin warnedthat Russia will be forced to respond to the supply of shells with depleted uranium to Ukraine. According to him, this decision demonstrates the willingness of the West to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian, not in words but in deeds. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, after the British statements, the threat of a nuclear clash becomes more and more real.
