The Institute of Experimental Medicine (IEM) is conducting preclinical studies of the mucosal influenza vaccine. Alexander Suvorov, head of the Department of Molecular Microbiology and the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics of Pathogenic Microorganisms at the IEM, told the media about this.
“We have options that are based on neurominidase, there are on hemagglutinin,” said a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. “Both of them turned out to be very good.” Suvorov spoke about the latest Russian developments being prepared within the framework of the III International Scientific and Practical Conference on combating COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
Preclinical studies are currently underway in laboratory animals. In the presence of funding, as the scientist noted, it is planned to conduct a full-scale “pre-clinic”.
Thus, the flu vaccine may look like a capsule. “It will be freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria, and it will be a capsule preparation,” Suvorov explained.
