Petersburg customs officers found 50 kg of cocaine in a batch of African bananas

At the Gavan customs post in St. Petersburg, inspectors found 50 kg of cocaine among African bananas in one of the refrigerated containers. On this fact, a criminal case was initiated for drug smuggling (Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). About it reported today, June 29, at the Federal Customs Service (FTS).
According to the documents, the cargo was transiting through Europe to Uzbekistan on various sea vessels. Customs officers discovered the drugs using a special inspection complex that uses penetrating radiation technology to obtain information about the contents of large shipments. When scanning, the inspector saw foreign objects on the monitor in the hidden cavity of the refrigeration unit.
After checking, 50 briquettes packed in film with white powder were removed from under the skin of the refrigerator. The examination confirmed that the seized substance was cocaine. The approximate value of the party on the black market exceeds 450 million rubles.
Detained smugglers face punishment up to life imprisonment with a fine of up to 1 million rubles, the FCS specified.
We add that at the end of March in St. Petersburg the police seized more than 200 kg of cocaine worth 800 million rubles, which an international criminal group tried to smuggle into Russia from Latin America. They hid illegal substances under the guise of fruit in a truck where special hiding places were equipped.
