Peskov urged to “lure” Zelensky to the negotiating table

Moscow welcomes the efforts of other countries aimed at resuming the negotiation process with Kyiv, however, it is not Russian President Vladimir Putin who should be “lured” to the negotiating table, but Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“You know, President Putin has repeatedly said that we are always happy to welcome any efforts in terms of peacekeeping and support such efforts. As for luring someone there: it’s better to lure President Zelensky somewhere, ”Peskov said.

The day before, November 17, the British magazine The Spectator, citing an Italian MP close to Berlusconi, Vittorio Zgarbi wrotethat the former Prime Minister of Italy considers himself the only one who can “lure” Putin to the negotiating table with Ukraine. Zgarbi claims that Berlusconi intends to implement this idea and “enter the history books.”

However, the next day, the magazine’s report was denied. Foreign Minister, Deputy Prime Minister of Italy Antonio Tajani named these data are false and said that Berlusconi is not going to Moscow to organize negotiations on Ukraine.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine, the parties have held negotiations several times. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. Later, the process was frozen, since Ukraine withdrew from it.

The leaders of Western countries have repeatedly stated the need to resume the negotiation process. On November 11, US President Joe Biden called the withdrawal of Russian troops from the country a condition for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. According to French President Emmanuel Macron, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine should begin on Kyiv’s terms.

Earlier today Peskov also declaredthat this process could be facilitated by a dialogue with the West, since the Ukrainian authorities listen to the position of Western countries. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry notedthat Russia and the United States have nothing to discuss in the framework of the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis because of the “radical opposition of positions.”
