Peskov urged officials not to speak the bird language of clericalism

Officials need to speak “plain Russian,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at the Territory of Meanings forum. In his opinion, it is necessary to speak in such a way that it is easy to retell. According to Mr. Peskov, it is also necessary to convince citizens that the state is doing everything right.

“We, officials, often sin with various bureaucracy and speak the language of a bird. And when an official speaks, for example, on TV and tries to tell people something, people sometimes just get upset because of this. And that’s what I don’t like. You must always use simple Russian, so that it is easy to retell,”— said Mr. Peskov to the participants of the Persuading session, organized by ANO Dialog and the New Media Workshop.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, the channel of information is of secondary importance. The meanings that they convey through these channels are important to the Russian authorities, he noted. As Mr. Peskov explained, there are meanings that “should consolidate the whole country, the whole society.”

The presidential press secretary also noted that the state needs to defend “its interests, its rightness within itself, before its citizens.” “They need to be convinced that what the state is doing is right,” he said. “And we must defend our interests before other countries. This is a very complex process, and yet it must be done day and night. Either you convince your brother or sister, or you convince another country. It’s the same,” Dmitry Peskov added.
