Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov told when Vladimir Putin will go to Donbass. According to the Kremlin spokesman, this will happen “when the time is right.”
“As for the trip of the president, I have no doubt that when the time comes, such a trip will take place,” declared he is in an interview with Izvestia during the Eastern Economic Forum 2022.
Peskov added that Russia has large-scale plans for the development of these territories. According to him, “vigorous efforts are being made to rebuild” the region. In particular, energy supply is being established, water pipelines and social facilities are being built. The day before, Putin said that the responsibility for the tragedy in the Donbas lies with the activities of the neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine. He added that Russia’s duty is to provide assistance to the residents of Donbass.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Putin called its goals the denazification, demilitarization of Ukraine and the liberation of the LNR and the DNR.
On July 3, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the release of the LPR. Now, according to him, the DPR is being released as planned. In early August, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, said that the Russian military, together with units of the people’s militia of the DPR and the LPR forces, managed to liberate about half of the entire territory of the DPR.
On February 22, Russia recognized the independence of the DNR and LNR. The beginning of the special operation was preceded by the appeal of the republics to Russia for military assistance “on the basis of Articles 3 and 4 of the treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the Russian Federation and the republics.”
