Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the Acting Governor of the Zaporozhye region Yevgeny Balitsky discussed the socio-economic development of the region, security, and the status of the Sudoplatov Volunteer Battalion. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, writes TASS.
“Putin held a working meeting with Acting Governor of the Zaporizhia Region Yevgeny Balitsky. Various issues related to the development of the Zaporozhye region, the functioning of the economy of business entities, and other aspects of the socio-economic situation were discussed,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
The development of the agricultural industry was also discussed, Peskov added. “Balitsky raised the issue of the status of the Sudoplatov Volunteer Battalion with the president,” the spokesman said.
The day before, March 6, in the Kremlin did not rule out meeting between Putin and Balitsky on March 7. Prior to that, on the same day, the Acting Governor of the Zaporozhye region declared that he will have a meeting with the president. According to Balitsky, he expected to discuss with Putin the issue of the status of volunteer battalions.
Balitsky explained that the unresolved issue of the status of volunteer battalions makes it difficult for them to receive weapons, and therefore in the battalion they are mostly captured. He noted that volunteer battalions and PMCs “fight well, dress themselves” and show their effectiveness in combat operations. Therefore, the issue of their status should be settled at the state level, Balitsky noted.
At the end of January it became knownthat the Ministry of Defense will take over the provision of volunteers with weapons, equipment and medical care. It was noted that volunteers will be provided in the manner established for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In case of causing material damage to the state during the performance of their duties, volunteers will be held liable.
