Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin is not discussing the issue of the return of the death penalty in Russia. Earlier, the leader of the Just Russia – For Truth party, Sergei Mironov, took the initiative to return the imposition and execution of death sentences.
“The Kremlin does not discuss this at all. This question has been raised many times over the years. But no decisions have been made,” Mr. Peskov said during the conference call.
Today, April 6, it became known that Sergei Mironov sent a letter to the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation Valery Zorkin with a proposal consider question of lifting the moratorium on the death penalty. The reaction of the head of the judiciary to this proposal is still unknown.
Evgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner private military company, also proposed returning the death penalty to Russia.
