Peskov: Russia will take full part in the BRICS summit

Russia will take full part in the 15th BRICS summit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will work directly at the summit site, and Russian President Vladimir Putin will work via video link. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, transmits “RIA News”.
“As for President Putin, he means to take part through a video conference, Foreign Minister Lavrov will work on the spot. Therefore, we proceed from the fact that Russia will take a full part in this summit,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin spokesman did not comment on media reports about the refusal of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the summit in person.
Earlier today, RIA Novosti, citing a source in the Indian government reportedthat Modi refused to go to the summit because Putin had made a similar decision earlier. The interlocutor of the agency did not specify whether the Indian prime minister will take part in the event via video link. According to him, Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar or Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar will attend the summit.
The 15th BRICS Summit will be held from 22 to 24 August in Johannesburg (South Africa). The group was founded in June 2006 as part of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. Initially, the association included Brazil, Russia, India and China. In 2020, South Africa joined it. Formerly Bolivia handed over BRICS countries a note about the desire to join the group. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia declaredthat the upcoming summit will be attended by Bolivian President Luis Arce.
