Peskov: Russia will follow the talks on Ukraine in Saudi Arabia

Russia will follow the talks on Ukraine that Saudi Arabia plans to hold, but there are no prerequisites for entering into peace talks with the current position of Kyiv. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

He noted that it is yet to be fully understood what goals are set at these negotiations. He stressed that any attempts to promote a peaceful settlement are worthy of a positive assessment.

“Is it possible now to reach a peaceful settlement with the participation of the Kyiv regime and its current position? The answer is also unequivocal: no, it is impossible. There are no prerequisites for this. President Putin spoke about this, in particular, just the day before, speaking at a press conference. The Kiev regime does not want and cannot want peace as long as it is used solely as a tool in the war of the collective West with Russia,” Peskov said.

On July 29, The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported on Saudi Arabia’s plans to hold peace talks on Ukraine without Russia’s participation. According to the publication, the meeting will be held from 5 to 6 August in Jeddah. It will be attended by the UK, the EU, Poland and South Africa. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan is also expected to arrive. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanani Chafi declaredthat Iran supports this initiative.

On July 29, at a meeting with the African mission to resolve the conflict, President Vladimir Putin declaredthat Russia is ready for negotiations with Ukraine, but Kyiv has legally banned dialogue on a peaceful settlement with Moscow. Putin also noted that the proposals for the settlement of the conflict, which were prepared by representatives of African countries, “resonate with the provisions of the peace plan presented in February by the People’s Republic of China.”
