Peskov: Russia is not afraid of losing an ally in the face of Armenia

Russia and Armenia still remain close, so Moscow is not afraid of losing an ally in Yerevan. About it reported press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

“No, we were, remain and, I am sure, will be very close allies and partners with Armenia,” he said, answering a question from TASS.

Peskov admitted that countries “may have certain problems,” but, according to the Kremlin representative, they should be resolved through dialogue. He added that the logic of development and national interests of Russia and Armenia indicate the need to deepen the alliance of the two countries.

From September 11 to 20 USA and Armenia carry out joint military exercises as part of “preparation for participation in international peacekeeping missions.” The Kremlin previously stated that such news causes concern.

On September 3, Pashinyan, in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, said that Russia is moving away from the South Caucasus, and Russian peacekeepers do not control the Lachin corridor. The Kremlin did not agree with the prime minister’s words, emphasizing that the Russian Federation is “an integral part of this region” and therefore cannot leave it.

September 7 Pashinyan statedthat Azerbaijan has concentrated troops on the border with Armenia and the dividing line with Nagorno-Karabakh. He called on the international community and UN countries to “take serious measures to prevent a new explosion” in the region. The Kremlin noted that they continue “scrupulous, consistent, constructive work” with both Yerevan and Baku.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova also previously noted that the negative agenda about Russia clearly dominates in the information field of Armenia. She emphasized inadmissibility of inciting hostility and hatred between citizens of the two countries. At the same time, the diplomat added, Moscow is interested in finding “ways to rectify the situation.” Zakharova emphasized that the common history and future of the two countries “will endure all this.”
