Peskov responded to Sandu’s words about the need to refuse cooperation with Russia

The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, is greatly mistaken in believing that following European values ​​implies the denial of everything Russian. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

“Unfortunately, the current authorities of Chisinau and Mrs. Sandu see in European values ​​the obligatory presence of a denial of everything Russian. This is a deep misconception. For Russia itself is a European value. This is part of common European values, no matter what anyone says. Here, unfortunately, Mrs. Sandu and the leadership of Moldova are deeply mistaken,” he said.

Peskov added that the leadership of Moldova is making a mistake in front of its own people by destroying relations with Russia. “This is a mistake, and unfortunately they will have to understand the cost of this mistake. The main thing is that the price of this mistake will be paid by the people of this country,” Peskov added.

On September 26, speaking on the Moldovan TV channel TV8, Sandu said that in order to promote European values, it is necessary to abandon cooperation with Russia. “It is not only necessary for people to say that they support European values. It is important for us that politicians show that they work and live by these European values. Because it’s not enough to say that we are with Europe, and with Moscow, and with everyone,” she said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).

On July 26, Chisinau decided to reduce the number of personnel at the Russian Embassy in the republic and announced the expulsion of 45 people. August 2, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Nicolae Popescu statedthat Moldova’s decision to reduce the number of staff at the Russian Embassy in the republic is a response to Moscow’s policies. Popescu added that the republic had established that some of the employees of the Russian diplomatic mission were allegedly engaged in “destabilizing the situation” in the country. The Kremlin said that Chisinau is deliberately putting relations with Russia “in a very pathetic state” and the country’s leadership is “cutting all the ropes.”
