Moscow is conducting a dialogue with Israel, and the foundation for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict should be the creation of an independent Palestinian state. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov to journalists in response to a request to comment on Israeli media publications that the country’s authorities were allegedly disappointed with Russia’s reaction to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

“We condemn all manifestations of terrorism, we sympathize with the relatives of the victims, we believe that it is necessary to ensure a ceasefire as soon as possible and reach a solution to the problem, the foundation for which should be ensuring an independent state for the Palestinians,” he said.

Peskov pointed to the consistency of the Russian Federation’s position and noted that Moscow conducts a “regular and intensive dialogue” with Israel and exchanges opinions.

Earlier on October 24, the Israeli Foreign Ministry expressed “dissatisfaction with the role played by Russia” in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and also expressed hope that Moscow will take a “more balanced” position. The Times of Israel reported this with reference to the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

On October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel. Amid the militant attack, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched Operation Iron Swords, and the country went into a state of war. On October 23, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant announced a “lethal” attack on militants in the Gaza Strip, which would include an offensive from land, sea and air.

Earlier, the IDF said it would cancel the planned operation in Gaza if Hamas militants release the hostages and lay down their arms.

Russian authorities previously convicted Hamas attack on Israel, while noting at the same time the inadmissibility of Israeli attacks on civilian targets in Gaza. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Israel was subjected to an unprecedented brutal attack from Hamas and has the right to protection. At the same time, he expressed hope for the end of the conflict and negotiations between the parties. The president has also repeatedly called for the creation of an independent Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
