Peskov recalled that Wagner PMC does not exist de jure

Legally PMC “Wagner” does not exist. This was recalled by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, responding to a request to comment on the UK’s statement about its intention to recognize Wagner as a terrorist organization.

“There is nothing to comment here. Probably, one can only add that de jure such a group does not exist,” he said.

On September 6, UK Home Secretary Swella Braverman announced that the UK government would include Wagner PMCs on the list of terrorist organizations, BBC reports. According to her, Wagner’s activities in Ukraine and Africa create a “threat to global security.”

The draft order, which will be sent to Parliament, involves the seizure of the organization’s assets, the BBC notes. Declaring PMC Wagner a terrorist organization will put its members outlaws in the UK. According to British law, the country prohibits the support and public approval of a terrorist organization, as well as the demonstration of its symbols. Violation of the ban carries a penalty of up to 14 years in prison or a fine of up to £5,000.

January 2023 USA recognized PMC “Wagner” “transnational criminal organization”. Companies associated with the group have also been sanctioned. We are talking about the Terra-Tech technology company, Sewa Security Services from the Central African Republic, which, according to the US Treasury Department, is controlled by PMCs, and the UAE aviation company Kratol Aviation. The restrictions also affected a number of individuals who, according to the US agency, are associated with PMC Wagner.
