Peskov: Putin made a lot of efforts to comply with the Minsk agreements

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin made a lot of efforts to implement the Minsk agreements. About this he declared in an interview with TASS.

“Unlike them, President Putin has done a lot and made a lot of efforts to implement these agreements and force the Ukrainian side to fulfill its obligations. But, unfortunately, now we already understand that it was impossible at that time,” Peskov said.

According to the press secretary, the then leaders of Germany, France and Ukraine did not take these documents seriously. “These documents were a screen to properly prepare Ukraine for war,” he said.

On February 9, the current President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledgedthat decided not to fulfill the obligations under the Minsk agreements. According to him, there was no desire in the treaty to preserve the independence of the country. Then Zelensky announced his decision to French President Emmanuel Macron, then German Chancellor Angela Merkel, as well as Putin, he said.

On December 7, 2022, Merkel stated that “everyone understood” that the Minsk agreements only froze the conflict in Donbass, but did not solve it. According to her, the 2014 agreements gave the Ukrainian authorities “priceless time.” In the same month, the words of the former chancellor were confirmed by the ex-president of France, Francois Hollande, who took part in the signing of the agreement.
