Peskov: Putin and Xi Jinping did not agree among themselves not to go to the G20

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping did not coordinate decisions not to fly to the G20 summit in India. About it declared Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov in a conversation with TASS.

“Based on their own schedules,” the Kremlin spokesman explained, answering the question whether the leaders agreed or whether each side made this decision independently.

The G20 meeting will be held in New Delhi on September 9-10. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Russian delegation at the event will be headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Peskov said that Putin does not plan to personally attend the G20 summit. At last year’s G20 summit in Indonesia, Russia was also represented by the head of the Foreign Ministry.

China will be represented at the G20 summit by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said. There confirmedthat Xi Jinping will not travel to New Delhi in early September.

Reuters wrotethat the G20 summit could host a meeting between Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden, who had previously confirmed his participation in the event. The leaders have not spoken in person since the last G20 summit, which was held in Indonesia in November 2022. Biden was disappointed by the Chinese leader’s decision.
