Peskov doubted that the United States would accept Lukashenka’s proposal for negotiations between Putin and Biden

The White House is unlikely to agree to the proposal of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to hold talks between Russian and US leaders Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden in Minsk. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“This is a new initiative of the President of Belarus. You have probably heard the White House statement that the US President does not plan any other stops except in Poland, so Washington is unlikely to respond positively to this initiative, ”he said.

In response to a question about Moscow’s readiness for such a meeting, Peskov stressed that Putin is “always ready for dialogue” with Lukashenka.

The day before, February 16, the Belarusian leader invited Biden to Minsk and offered to organize negotiations with Putin. Lukashenka expressed confidence that the Russian leader would come to Minsk and the three leaders would be able to “solve all problems.” If the United States agrees to talks, then Belarus will provide a “smooth flight” to Minsk and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Lukashenka added.

Biden’s visit to Poland will take place from February 20 to 22, he is scheduled to meet with the President of the Republic Andrzej Duda and the leaders of the Bucharest Nine countries. February 16 at the White House declaredthat Biden does not plan to visit neighboring countries after his visit to Poland, including Ukraine.

Today, February 17, Lukashenka arrived to Moscow to meet with Putin in Novo-Ogaryovo. The Kremlin previously reported that the leaders would discuss issues related to the development of Russian-Belarusian relations and the Union State. According to Lukashenka, the presidents will touch upon the topics of security and defense.
