Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called the government’s refusal to support the bill of the Communist Party faction on Russia’s withdrawal from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) justified. The government, in particular, pointed out that the exit from the IMF and the World Bank carries risks for the Russian assets invested in them.
Journalists asked Dmitry Peskov to comment on the refusal of the Cabinet of Ministers to withdraw Russia from the IMF. “The main thing here is the position of the government, which is very well-reasoned. And therefore, disagreement with such a proposal is very well-reasoned,” Peskov noted.
July 25 faction of the Communist Party contributed submitted to the State Duma a bill that invites Russia to withdraw from the IMF, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Development Association. The deputies also proposed to invalidate the decision of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation on Russia’s accession to the IMF, as well as to denounce the protocol on Russia’s accession to the IMF, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Development Association, signed in Washington in 1992.
