Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov believes that it is wrong to “linearly equate” war correspondents with participants in hostilities in Ukraine. He noted that formally, military officers do not participate in a military conflict with weapons in their hands.

“Still, they are not direct participants in the conflict, they are not participating in this war with weapons in their hands. Therefore, to linearly equate them like this to the participants of the Northern Military District, I think it would probably be wrong,” Dmitry Peskov said in an interview International Reporters.

In the summer of 2023, near the village of Pyatikhatki, Zaporozhye region died RIA Novosti military correspondent Rostislav Zhuravlev – the president awarded him the Order of Courage posthumously. In the fall, in the Zaporozhye region, the military correspondent of “Russia 24” Boris Maksudov died – he too was awarded Order of Courage posthumously. In February of this year, Zvezda war correspondent Daniil Piontkovsky wounded in the leg during shelling of a village in the DPR.
