Peskov commented on the tests of the Burevestnik missile

The topic of testing Burevestnik nuclear-powered missiles is of particular interest to the participants of the Valdai Discussion Club, which is why Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about them. This was announced by presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“The President made a statement that we continue to develop these weapons systems (nuclear-powered missiles. – Ed.). This topic has repeatedly appeared on the international information agenda in recent weeks. It was of interest to the Valdai participants, and that’s why Putin reported it,” the Kremlin representative said.

Peskov also refused to disclose when the latest successful test of the Burevestnik missile, which Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about on October 5, took place. “In this case, I cannot provide any information on this topic,” Peskov said.

On October 5, speaking at the plenary session of the 20th annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia had completed the last successful tests of the global-range cruise missile with a nuclear propulsion system “Burevestnik” and completed work on the super-heavy missile “Sarmat” . The head of state also noted that mass production of these missiles and their placement on combat duty will begin in the near future.

During his speech, Putin also noted, that he does not see the need to change the concept of military doctrine regarding the use of nuclear weapons. The Russian leader recalled that the document indicated two reasons for the possible use of nuclear weapons – the use of such weapons against Russia and the threat to the existence of the Russian state, even if conventional weapons are used.
