The Kremlin does not announce international visits in advance, including for security reasons, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on data about a possible visit of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad to Moscow.
“International visits, you know, we will announce at the appointed time, we will not do this before. Especially since, of course, there are certain security rules when making visits, so we are never in a hurry with announcements. We will tell you everything in a timely manner,” the Kremlin spokesman stressed.
Earlier, Vedomosti, citing an informed diplomatic source, wrote that Assad would arrive in Russia on an official visit in mid-March. According to an interlocutor close to the presidential administration, Russian leader Vladimir Putin can also receive him.
The last visit of the Syrian President to the Russian capital took place before the start of hostilities in Ukraine – in mid-September 2021.
