Peskov commented on the information about the creation of assault brigades in Ukraine

Donbass is not fully protected yet, so the special military operation continues. The security of Crimea is reliably ensured, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

Thus, the Kremlin representative commented on the news about the formation of assault brigades in Ukraine to seize the Crimea and Donbass.

“Well, Donbass is not fully protected yet, and therefore the special military operation continues. Actually, we have to protect the people who live there. So far, this goal has not been fully achieved. This is yet to be done. Crimea is, like Donbass, a region of the Russian Federation. And the security of Crimea is reliably ensured,” Peskov answered the question of whether Crimea and Donbass are reliably protected and whether the Kremlin considers this a threat.

Today it became known that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine started to the formation of assault brigades from the military, border guards and police to seize the Crimea and Donbass. The project was called “Offensive Guard”.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia, and on October 19 martial law was introduced in the regions.

On September 30, Putin and the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions signed agreements on the annexation of the regions to Russia. Putin stressed that the inhabitants of the annexed territories “become citizens of the Russian Federation forever.” Referendums on the issue of joining the regions to the Russian Federation were held from 23 to 27 September. According to the results of calculations, 100% of ballots in the DPR and LPR supported joining Russia by 99.23% and 98.42% of those who voted, respectively, in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – 93.11% and 87.05%, respectively.

Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 after a referendum. According to its results, 96.77% of voters in the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% in Sevastopol were in favor of joining Russia. Nevertheless, Kyiv continues to insist that Crimea is Ukrainian territory. According to Putin, the issue of Crimea is “finally closed.”
