Peskov commented on Mironov’s proposal to nominate Putin for the presidential election

The proposal of the leader of A Just Russia – For the Truth, Sergei Mironov, to nominate the incumbent head of state, Vladimir Putin, in the upcoming presidential elections in 2024 is “an important indicator of the president’s support.” This was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

“This is probably another important indicator of the level of support for the president and the political forces of our state and among the population as a whole. The level of support is really high, the level of consolidation around the president is high. This is important both for the president and for all of us,” Peskov said.

Answering a journalist’s question about why “anti-Putin Western propaganda” does not affect the high level of trust in the president, Peskov said that “our society has a certain degree of resistance.”

“There is a certain degree of resistance in our society to those flows of fakes, already deliberate, and incompetent assessments. Indeed, we have such resistance. Mainly, our society is guided not by the countries of the West, but by our own country, which is also extremely important both for our present and for our future,” Peskov added.

On May 20, at a meeting of the congress of the Just Russia – For Truth party, Mironov proposed to nominate Putin for the upcoming presidential elections to be held next year. “His actions fully meet our goals and objectives. The Just Russia – Patriots – For Truth party will provide full support to the incumbent head of state,” the party leader wrote on his Telegram channel.

In 2024, presidential elections will be held in Russia. On January 20, Ella Pamfilova, chairman of the Central Election Commission, announced that the CEC had already begun preparations for the presidential elections in 2024. Kommersant newspaper wrote that the presidential administration proceeded from the fact that Putin would take part in the elections. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov then said that preparations for the elections had not yet begun in the presidential administration and in the Kremlin.

At the end of November 2022, the head of state said that he had not yet decided whether he would be re-elected for a new presidential term. At the same time, answering the question about what other goals he would like to achieve for Russia, the president said that “I would like to realize the plans that we have announced, the goals that we have set ourselves for the development of the country.” After that, Peskov said that in the last year before the presidential elections, the main things for Putin will be “things that need to be completed 100% effectively and victoriously.”
