Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on the words of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about a possible discussion in the EU of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. Mr. Peskov called such discussions “a potentially dangerous topic.”
“If we are talking about some serious negotiations, then this is a potentially extremely dangerous discussion. Potentially, this is a very dangerous topic,” a Kremlin spokesman said during a press call. Mr. Peskov added that in the world practice, sending peacekeepers to a combat zone, as a rule, should be carried out exclusively with the consent of both sides of the conflict.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on March 31 on the air of the radio station Kossuth stated that the EU member states are close to discussing sending peacekeeping troops in Ukraine. According to him, European leaders have avoided this topic in conversations before. Mr. Orban compared such talks to discussions about deliveries of lethal weapons to Ukraine: a year ago, large-scale tank deliveries seemed impossible, but in the end they became a reality.
