The transfer of new regions of Russia to Moscow time is due to geographical reasons, but it is also correct from the point of view of symbolism, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

At a conference call, journalists asked Peskov whether the law signed by the president has a strategic, geographical or political meaning.

“I think that, first of all, geographical. And of course, even if this was not meant, from the point of view of symbolism, this is very correct, ”Peskov replied.

In accordance with the agreement signed on April 14 by President Vladimir Putin law, Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions are transferred to the second time zone (UTC + 3). Previously, they operated the UTC + 2 zone.

On September 30 last year, Putin and the leaders of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions signed agreements on the regions joining Russia. According to the president, after signing the document, the inhabitants of these regions “become citizens of the Russian Federation forever.” On October 5, he signed federal laws admitting four new subjects to the country.
