Peskov called the humanitarian situation in Gaza catastrophic

Russia will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the residents of the Gaza Strip. This was announced by presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, calling the situation in the conflict zone catastrophic.

“Many countries are now providing assistance to Palestine, but, unfortunately, assistance can now be delivered there in a very, very limited volume and only through the territory of Egypt, only through the Rafah checkpoint, which operates in a very limited mode. Unfortunately, the required amount of aid simply cannot be delivered there right now. But, of course, the Russian side will continue all contacts with the Palestinians, the Israelis, and the Egyptians in order to further seek the opportunity to ensure the direction of such assistance,” he said.

Peskov also called the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone “extremely tense and catastrophic from a humanitarian point of view.” He stressed that it is extremely important for Moscow that humanitarian pauses and humanitarian needs of the civilian population of the Gaza Strip are provided.

The Kremlin spokesman also added that Russian diplomats continue to work to provide Russian citizens with the opportunity to leave Gaza. “We are in constant contact with all the parties who must agree on this. This is difficult, because you need to synchronize humanitarian pauses, you need to get permission from the Egyptian side to enter Israeli territory, which also has its own requirements, and so on and so forth. Therefore, it is a very, very difficult job, our diplomats continue to do this,” he said.

On October 20, Peskov said that Russia is ready to evacuate its citizens from the Gaza Strip, there is a possibility for this.
