Peskov: Baltic States and Poland provoke increased confrontation with Russia

The aggressively minded Baltic states and Poland are doing everything they can to escalate further confrontation with Russia, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

So he commented on the call of Gitanas Nauseda to cross the “red lines” and supply Kyiv with F-16 fighters.

“In general, we see a very, very aggressive attitude of the representatives of the Baltic countries, Poland – they are obviously ready to do everything to provoke the growth of further confrontation, probably without thinking much about the consequences,” he said at a briefing.

The Kremlin spokesman also expressed regret that the major European countries, which are “the engines of all European processes,” are not trying to balance the actions of “representatives with extremist inclinations.” The growing involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine is not able to change its course, Peskov added.

The question of the supply of fighters was raised last week after the US and Germany decided to transfer heavy tanks to Ukraine. According to the adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky Mykhailo Podolyak, now Ukraine leads negotiations with Western countries regarding the transfer of aviation and long-range missiles to the country. According to Politico, NATO countries are actively discussing the possibility of deliveries, among the ardent supporters of the idea of ​​sending fighters to Ukraine, the Baltic countries are mentioned.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that Washington was not going to supply Kyiv with F-16 fighter jets. According to a Politico source, U.S. officials told Kyiv officials that sending fighter jets “is not possible at the moment.” Berlin took a similar position. At the same time, French President Emmanuel Macron said he did not rule out the possibility of delivering aircraft to Ukraine.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that the supply of weapons to Ukraine would not prevent Russia from achieving the goals of the special operation.
