Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin could discuss with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko his proposal to declare a truce in the zone of military conflict in Ukraine.
The initiative of Mr. Lukashenko provides for an immediate ceasefire between the parties to the conflict, as well as a ban on the movement of troops and military equipment in the combat zone.
According to Dmitry Peskov, Messrs. Putin and Lukashenko may touch upon the topic of a truce in Ukraine next week during a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
“This will give the presidents the opportunity to once again talk in detail with each other, for sure, they will discuss this topic as well,” the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation emphasized during a press call.
On March 31, Alexander Lukashenko, speaking with a message to the National Assembly, proposed the format of an immediate truce in Ukraine. According to him, hostilities should be stopped without the right to move groups of troops and transfer weapons and equipment.
In February, Mr. Lukashenko said that already suggested President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to conclude a peace treaty with Russia without preconditions. He explained this by saying that “if a new military conflict starts in the world, everyone will forget about Ukraine.”
