Peskov announced the “cardinal” legal consequences of the referendums in the Donbass

The Kremlin reported that after the referendums on joining Russia to the DPR, LPR, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine, the legal status of these territories will radically change. The changes will affect security measures in the regions and their status in terms of international law, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of Russia.

“Of course, the situation will radically change from a legal point of view, from the point of view of international law. With all the relevant consequences for the purposes of protection and security in these territories,” said Mr. Peskov during today’s press call. He commented that the possibility of stopping or reducing the shelling of territories depends on the Ukrainian side.

Last week Dmitry Peskov declaredthat, if the regions of Ukraine, the DPR and the LPR are annexed to Russia, the strikes on them do not stop, the Russian side will consider them as an attack on Russia. Earlier, the Russian authorities have repeatedly accused the Armed Forces of Ukraine of attacks on Russian border territories.
