This year, the direct line and the annual big press conference of Russian President Vladimir Putin will be combined into one event. This was stated by presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“This will be a combined format. Yes, it will be this year,” he said (quote according to RIA Novosti). Peskov also clarified that the date of the event has already been determined, but did not name it.

“Direct Line with Vladimir Putin” is a format in which the president answers questions from Russians and foreigners live. The straight line was first drawn in 2001, and then it ran every year except 2004 and 2012. In 2020, the direct line and Putin’s traditional big press conference were combined for the first time. In 2021, the event took place in June. Then during the broadcast, the president answered 81 questions in just over four hours.

In 2022, there was neither a direct line nor a big press conference, which traditionally takes place in December. Last summer, Peskov admitted that the events could be combined into one, but at that time there was no exact decision.
