After the appointment of Liz Truss as Prime Minister of Great Britain, relations between Moscow and London are unlikely to change for the better. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the victory of Truss in the election of the Prime Minister of Great Britain.
“Judging by the statements made by Mrs. Truss about our country, which she made during her tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs and as a candidate for this post, [премьер-министра]then we can assume with a high degree of certainty that there is no need to wait for any changes for the better, ”Peskov said.
The Kremlin spokesman did not specify whether Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to congratulate Truss on his election victory.
The day before, Peskov also said that Moscow does not expect an improvement in relations with London after the change of prime minister. “I would not like to say that these changes can happen for the worse, because it is difficult to imagine the worst,” he said.
On September 5, it became known about victory British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss in the struggle for the post of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the ruling Conservative Party following the results of an internal party vote. Truss’ candidacy was supported by 81,326 ordinary members, while her rival, former finance minister Rishi Sunak, received 60,399 votes.
