The American edition of The Hill published an article in which it predicted what would happen if former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev became president of the United States at one time.
The author of the material, Harlan Ullman, suggested that Gorbachev would have been born in America in a poor family of hired farmers. In his youth, he could have won a grant, graduated from a prestigious university and law school, and then worked in a law firm in Washington. Then he would understand that the civil service is his calling, and would return to his city, the author of an article in The Hill argues.
He believes that the US Republican Party would then nominate one of the state’s major cities as a candidate for mayor. As a result of two successful terms, Gorbachev would have been elected governor, and some time later – the head of the National Association of Governors. This contributed to the fact that the state under the leadership of Gorbachev flourished and improved every year. Gorbachev would then become Vice President of the United States. However, suddenly the current head of the White House, who was elected together with Gorbachev, passes away, in connection with this, the latter takes the post of President of the United States.
As Ulman notes, Gorbachev would have opted for a two-pronged approach: he would have tried to restructure the executive branch and organize a nationwide referendum on several key issues. Such measures could save the situation, the author believes. At the same time, whether the American Gorbachev would conduct them or not, the observer does not give an answer.
