The 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China ended in Beijing. Four members of the Politburo Standing Committee, including Premier Li Keqiang, were not included in the new CPC Central Committee, according to Chinese state media.
Li Keqiang is considered the second official in the country after Chinese President Xi Jinping. The new composition of the Central Committee of the CPC will not include the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (the country’s parliament) Li Zhanshu (No. 3 in the Chinese political hierarchy).
This may mean that they will not be included in the new composition of the Politburo and its Standing Committee. In March 2023, in all likelihood, they will leave their positions.
The new composition of the CPC Central Committee included 205 people. On October 23, the first plenum of the CPC Central Committee of the new convocation will be held, where the composition of the Politburo and its standing committee will be approved. The general secretary of the CPC Central Committee will also be elected. Xi Jinping is expected to be re-elected for a third term.
