Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN: Russia is outraged by Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip

Russia is shocked and outraged by the Israeli army’s attacks on civilian targets in Gaza, said Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.

The diplomat spoke at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

“We are shocked and deeply outraged that civilian targets are being targeted: schools, hospitals, mosques, refugee camps,” he said.

Nebenzya said such attacks on civilian infrastructure are a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

“Respect for international humanitarian law is an imperative. Any war has rules,” he said, calling for a ceasefire as quickly as possible, and not limited to short pauses. According to him, only in this way will it be possible to prevent new victims.

“Assistance to the population of Gaza would put a barrier to the further growth of the armed confrontation and the drawing in of new regional participants into it,” Nebenzya said.

Earlier, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that in the Gaza Strip, the Gaza healthcare system has reached the point of no return. The organization said in a statement that the situation threatens the lives of thousands of wounded, sick and displaced people, and the health system is overburdened, deprived of medicines, and also exposed to attacks. The ICRC calls the attacks on hospitals and their workers a serious blow to Gaza’s healthcare system and calls for them to stop, and calls the destruction unbearable. It was previously reported that medical facilities in Palestine were attacked at least 245 times, including 188 times in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army said that Hamas members were hiding in the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, but this would not stop the Israeli army from reaching them. They promised that they would attack “any place where there are terrorists, any infrastructure.”
