Perm judokas win medals at the Paralympic Summer Games

The Summer Paralympic Games “We are together. Sport”. These are complex sports competitions for people with a lesion of the musculoskeletal system, in the sport of the blind, in the sport of people with intellectual disabilities.

In judo (the sport of the blind), representatives of the Kama region successfully performed. Alexander Zhuzhgov and Vadim Khasanov won silver in their weight categories, Irina Akimova and Kiril Atomanov became bronze medalists of the Games.

“I have been doing judo under the guidance of coach Ildar Mingaliev for about 10 years. In 2022, at the Russian Championship, I was selected for the national team. And I, of course, have been actively preparing for the competitions all last year. And I took 2nd place in the games, although, of course, I expected that I would win 1st. The plans now include even more training, because there is something to strive for, ”said Alexander Zhuzhgov.

Alexander works as a massage nurse at the City Children’s Clinical Hospital. P.I. Pichugin. He has been working in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine for the fifth year after graduating from the Perm Basic Medical College with a degree in medical massage (for training people with visual impairments). And in the status of a nurse, she now successfully helps patients of a medical institution recover with the help of professional massage.

And right after work, he goes to the Dynamo stadium. Judo training for visually impaired athletes takes place in a strict regime, 5-6 times a week: standard warm-up, jogging, then sparring, practicing techniques. The emphasis is placed, first of all, on the preservation of vision during the struggle, that is, on the ability of the athlete to secure himself correctly during falls.

Recall, the Summer Paralympic Games “We are together. Sport” in 2023 unite about 4,500 participants. Competitions will be held in 14 subjects of the Russian Federation: Moscow and St. Petersburg, Krasnodar Territory, Kurgan, Leningrad, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov and Tula regions, the Republics of Bashkortostan, Dagestan, Mordovia, Tatarstan and Chuvashia. The program includes 22 sports, which corresponds to the program of the XVII Paralympic Summer Games 2024 in Paris. Within the framework of the Games, it is planned to hold championships and Cups of Russia, as well as All-Russian competitions in an open format with the invitation of foreign participants.

The closing ceremony will take place on November 8 at the Tula Arena multifunctional sports center. A total of 548 sets of medals will be played during the Summer Paralympic Games.
